There are over one million plastic bags in the world’s oceans. These bags find their way to the ocean because we do not take better care of the environment we live in. This collection aims to bring awareness to the amount of plastic in the oceans by using plastic bags as the main textile throughout the garments. Using the plastic bags for clothes will prevent them from ending up in the oceans. The bags will be cut up into strips and crocheted into fabric that resembles the shapes and style of the coral reefs that populate our oceans‘ floors. All profits generated from the collection will go towards The 5 Gyres Institute, an organization that fights plastic pollution in our oceans.
